Key Assessment: Online Learning Module
Learning Module ReflectionDuring my first semester at Georgia Southern, I studied the instructional design process and became equipped with the skills that allowed me to facilitate learning in a variety of contexts. This multi-semester project resulted in an online learning module that allowed me to create 10 instructional videos, an originally designed companion booklet, and automated assessment tools that allowed students to take the course asynchronously.
Learning the tenets of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) inspired me to create a printable companion booklet for the online module which fulfills the “multiple means of representation” piece of UDL. The class in focus had a broad range of reading levels, so I wanted to include activities that allowed them to choose books on their level and within their interests, while the module allowed them to engage in similar reading strategies. This was the most extensive project of my Library Media coursework, but one that I found fulfilling and professionally beneficial. It also allowed me to combine my personal interests of filmmaking, design, and pedagogy. |

I love teaching. I love when students get excited about learning. The library media specialist must fill many roles, and the most exciting role to me is that of a teacher. I want students to be excited about reading and learning, and the instructional role of a media specialist is what I believe can support this the most.
Students need intrinsic motivation, and I think that promoting the personal and intellectual value of inquiry is a perfect way to start. Media specialists can do this by creating opportunities that allow students to explore their interests, talents, and creativity. By creating a product and presenting it to an authentic audience, students will hopefully see the value in reading and inquiry and then generalize these skills throughout their lives. |
