Key Assessment: Instructional Design Document

Completing an instructional design (ID) plan of this size allowed me to explore all aspects of the ADDIE framework in depth. This assignment helped me realize the importance of flexibility and creativity in planning and delivering instruction, and the ID process lends itself to both. No ID experience will be the same as each depends on learner’s specific needs and characteristics.
As a media specialist, I will be challenged with broad range of learning needs and will have to provide resources and instruction in a variety of settings. This assignment has equipped me with the skills necessary to complete a spectrum of instructional tasks with competence. |
Collaborative Lesson
Communicating and sharing new knowledge is an important tenet of information literacy. In this assignment, I collaborated with a second grade teacher to develop a unit that allowed students to hone critical thinking and communication skills through the use of literature and video discussions. We adapted the reader’s workshop model and integrated the use of FlipGrid for students to demonstrate discussion and information sharing skills.
Last month, I blogged about my inspiration for exploring FlipGrid, and eventually, led a professional learning session on the topic. I and was elated when other teachers began sharing their FlipGrid projects shortly thereafter. The students loved recording and watching their original videos and those of their peers. The assignment provided a voice for students who may not be as willing to speak up in classroom discussions. It was satisfying watching students self-assess their presentations and then work harder to improve their responses. My hope is that the activity helped students realize the value and excitement in sharing knowledge with others.
